What is Borderline Personality?
Sometimes called BPD, Borderline Personality Disorder, Personality Disorder or simply Borderline, it refers to having a pattern in your life of instability in relationships, self-image, emotions. Personality disorders begin with childhood experiences but start to be noticeable in early adulthood. What does it feel like? Very unhappy and vary wary. People feel that others in their life want control them or stifle them. They want to reject those people but it’s too scary to be without them. It can feel too scary to trust people who seem wonderful but then seem bad and threatening. Generally, the world just doesn’t feel like a safe place or a place to thrive.
Here are common symptoms of borderline personality:
- Frantic efforts to avoid abandonment
- Intense and unstable relationships
- An ever-changing sense of your self
- Trouble controlling impulses in spending, sex, recklessness, etc
- Recurrent suicidal/self-harm threats
- Very emotionally reactive
- Always feeling empty inside
- Trouble controlling intense anger
- Feeling the world just isn’t a safe place
- Feeling out of your body or detached.
